Thanks for your comments. I went with “struggles to control” because the powers are difficult to control like Jean Grey struggling with the Phoenix powers in X-Men. She can manipulate life energy: chi, prana, etc. Her own and those of others. To heal or to destroy. The interdimensional beings also have this power, but they have mastered it.
I had played with this idea:
A night club owner struggles to control her newfound powers while she battles beings who seek to use those powers to tear a hole in the fabric between our world and theirs, allowing them to pass onto our world to wreck havoc as they did in ancient times.

Yes, what powers. And what are interdimensional beings and why would they want to tear a hole in the fabric? What advantage does it give them?

What new found powers? Levitation? Pyromancy? Read minds? See through clothes?
Just curious.

“Struggles to control her newfound powers” seems negative. Suggest it is might be better to frame it more positively in reference to her objective goal: Like “must learn to use her new-found powers to defeat interdimensional beings tearing a hole in the fabric between our world and theirs…”
And what’s at stake? Why must she battle the interdimensionals? What are the consequences in tearing a hole in the fabric? Why should we in the viewing audience care or worry about it? Does it mean they are trying to destroy our world? Conquer it? Or…?
