A college dropout minding his hyperactive niece …
And then what? What complications ensues of dramatic and (I presume) comedic interest? This logline describes the situation for a plot — but not a plot.
AS DPG said you haven’t described a goal and with out a goal you have no plot.
Also try thinking of the worst candidate to be taking care of his niece and describe the MC as that. This way you could create intrigue in the concept. Consider Kindergarten Cop as a good example of such dynamics.
Hope this helps.
Following on from what Nir said: if he’s an aimless, laid-back uni dropout, perhaps your story is about his finding a purpose in life by helping his niece; if he’s an entrepreneurial uni dropout, maybe he and his niece find they share a talent for the stock market, bringing them closer together. Get the idea?
Once you have your concept or theme sorted, then you can use the rest of your logline to describe the plot. Knowing your concept will also help when writing your script: you’ll have a hook to keep your story grounded and on track.
“When he’s forced to take care of his hyperactive niece, a college dropout must…” (Then tell us what he must do)
