This is just a “Practice” logline. I have absolutely no rights to the Batman franchise 🙁
Feel free to add subtract or even ‘get weird’ with this one 🙂
1: The Bat Car is repossessed and Batman has to drive around in Rubin’s low rider.
2: Rubin asks if some of his family could stay at the mansion. Soon Wayne Manor filled with Rubin’s family. Including a very vibrant ‘Tia’ who hit’s anyone who defies her with a wooden spoon. But she makes the most excellent Abondigas. (Based on someone I actually know)
3: Batman has to make due with cheaper versions of his “Wonderful Toys” (For instance. Instead of a Bat Signal, the commissioner just sends a texts to Batman’s pay by month phone)
Hilarious — you might get away with this if you just create your own superhero — just with a nod and a wink to the Batman Franchise — too good an idea to waste IMO.
‘That Man & Rubin”
??
Great Idea Tony! Sort of like Galaxy Quest.
After losing his fortune in a stock market crash, Bruce Wayne must fire Robin, outsource a sidekick from China, and crowd source his next battle against the forces of evil.
Great Idea dpg… but no Low rider, lol
However I like the beginning of your logline better than mine, let me combine the two:
“After losing his fortune in a stock market crash, Bruce Wayne is forced to fire Robin and hire an undocumented worker as his side kick”
“Losing his fortune after the Joker crashes the stock market, Bruce Wayne is forced to fire Robin and hire an undocumented worker as his side kick to battle his arch nemesis?
Excellent; the Joker crashing the market. I also like the crowd sourcing gimmick — why only go half-crazy? So:
After the Joker destroys his fortune by crashing the stock market, Bruce Wayne must fire Robin, hire an undocumented worker as his side kick and crowd source his battle against his arch nemesis.
Wouldn’t it be funny if Batman gets his crowd mixed up and the crowd ‘flash mobs’ the joker instead of battling him 🙂
If I went with Tony’s Idea I think I would use “Burt West” as the Billionaire crime fighter.
Yes, if you’re going for comedy, that would be a great climax: all is lost. Batman is doomed — until he’s saved by a flash mob. An updated version of a deus ex machina! (Properly handled you can get away with a deus ex machina in comedy. Aristotle objected to the deus ex machina gimmick in tragedy — but not in comedy.)
They all start dancing to Lady Ga Ga or Taylor Swift and the Joker is like. “I must destroy this evil person who sings this song!”
Hey, if the Bible can have Dues EX Machina… So can my script 🙂
But, seriously folks, it’s time for a parody on the whole superhero genre. I’ve been noodling with one based upon a sketch script I wrote for our team in a 48 Hour Film Project contest a few years ago.
Nice, I agree.
(That spider man one just wasn’t that funny)
Just a possibly irrelevant side note on deus ex machina in Comedy: In the movie Dodgeball, if you look closely in the finale when Peter (Vince Vaughn) brings out the trunk of cash he’s gained from betting on Average Joe’s to win, you can see the trunk is marked on the front with ‘Deus Ex Machina’ —
The point I guess, is that the wackier the comedic premise the more obvious deus ex machina you get away with..
Anyway — best of luck with this Richiev… had me chortling at work all day!
I love the original idea and all the other ideas in between the last. Would make great comedy. I’d go and see it for sure. 🙂
