Those terms are so vague I don’t know what this story is about.
If the aliens know about this why aren’t they going to stop the disaster themselves, why him?
What skill does your lead character have to stop the destruction of the entire universe that the aliens that sent the message don’t have?

The aliens are going to destroy Earth, as the message he discovers tell him.

He has to race to get a message back to the Aliens and save the world. He is a IT genius and has uncovered this message in a computer program he invented. He has no special skills other than being able to communicate to the aliens. The “existence is not as it seems” means an alternate reality. The concept is complicated – similar to the Matrix hard to sum up in one sentence without being vague.
