On a side note, The idea is that each person did something out of character when they thought they were going to die.
The main story line’s about a priest who at the last moment curses God, now he must come to terms with his loss of faith and whether he should continue to be a priest.
The Comet just disappears. Know one knows why. Some people think it was a miracle, some people believe aliens intervened, some people think there was no comet it was just a secret government program that caused a mass hallucination.
The story is told in both the present, (The day after) and in flashbacks.
I see you’re trying to jump ahead of the 30 inevitable movies that will be made next year about the Mayan Calendar thing. But really, isn’t this just the same thing as those movies about people who sleep together and then regret it after?
If the main storyline is about a priest, why not just focus the logline on the priest? If the story concerns his crisis of faith, then find a way to turn that into something interesting – like for some reason he visits a gay bar, finds a guy and then “accidentally” sleeps with him. So then he questions his beliefs and maybe even believes that sleeping with a man is what saved the entire world from destruction.
It’s probably not where you’d go with the story, but I can’t help but throw out ideas.
Sorry, if I’ve been no help at all.
The idea came to me because I noticed all these types of movies are about the end of the world, I have yet to see a movie about the day after the end of the world.
I think you make an interesting point, I will see if I can come up with something for the priest.
“After the end of the world fails to happen, a priest must deal with his loss of faith during the crisis or give up his calling”
I can see what you are trying to do with it and is a very interesting take on an overdone end of world epic. one that is very good and quite grounded is ‘Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World’ which is a really good film. I think with the log line you should look at the central heart of the film and use that mainly with the end of the world being the backdrop. Really it sounds like a story about the priest and others’ regrets. In the log line I would maybe put the comet at the end so people don’t think it is just another end of world movie. I think Lucius has raised some really good points.
This is a really interesting idea. The problem – potentially – is that it will sound like a movie about things *not* happening. Which, I guess, is why no one’s ever tried it before. I think you need to give the logline a) a definite lead character and b) a goal s/he’s chasing.
I’m not saying this is the right logline, but it needs to have the *shape* of –
“When the world fails to end as advertised, a (character) must/ decides to (achieve a specific goal) to atone for the things he did when he thought it no longer mattered”. Or whatever.
Thanks for the reply, I do think I need to narrow it down to one character in the logline even if it about several characters.
