Most people seem to struggle with describing their MC even briefly. You are the flip side, over describing.

As dpg and Craig suggest, let's try to boil down what your story is. You say romance, so perhaps mention the other party involved and what's unique about their get together.

"Moving on" is the story. Tell us that. A detective wants a relationship with xxxx but he is held back by events in his past.

Then keep working from there.
