The word (unlucky) gives me feeling it's a comedy

As Richiev's example demonstrates, to help with empathy, you'll need an out of the ordinary event to motivate him and a noble goal. Otherwise, he's just a thief doing his thing, which in its own right isn't very interesting.

The main thing I don't understand is, why would such a criminal be unlucky?? I feel it's supposed to be apparent to us from the logline, which would be great as a hook, but it's not.? I'd think, if there was another distracting elaborate heist, you might have an easier time pulling yours off, because it could be a nice distraction, and you might even get access to places you wouldn't, pretending to be a production assistant or catering and walkin' like you own it.
