    Is this close to what you are trying to say?

    To consolidate his position as a homicide detective, a sharp-witted cop must escort (escort where? from what? Why does the convict need escorting?) a death row inmate while his (calculated ward? What is that?) prosecutors are determined to avenge a man they claim he killed.
