Where did she find this guy? Why does she think he could be of any use to her? It seems like a gimmick for the sake of a differentiating gimmick.
And if I did buy the character, wouldn’t it be the case that what he needs to be duped into believing is that he is an “heroic detective” not an “heroic bounty hunter” — big difference in job descriptions.
I think it would be better that they are both characters playing with a full deck of cards, an Odd Couple who bond over a common need, mutual stakes.
