An ailing country town convinces Kevin Costner to sing at the close of their rodeo. When an accident happens, Kevin thinks he is the 'Bodyguard'. Policeman WIlliam William an Indigenous man, worn down, angry and hungry for a transfer has to 'watch him' and find a cure before the end of the day. (PS would use a lookalike Kevin Costner)

Mayday Rodeo – super special guest star – this weekend

      Steal away Ic13,

As for “Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael,” the movie centers around the arrival of a famous “Celebrity” that only exists in that film. As a result, if you created a celebrity wouldn’t have the casting/legal issues as dpg pointed out.

Anyway, the idea comes across as one of those quirky, small town, indy pictures with an odd assortment of characters and a lot of craziness going on. Sounds fun.

If you’re really want to twist the character, make her a thoroughly deluded… woman. Who thinks she’s used to be Kevin Costner — before a sex change operation. Or she’s the reincarnation of Elvis. (Or both, depending on the time of day, her medication and her mood.)

Hello, I commented above as “Jeff” because I had yet to make an account, but I just wanted to say it wasn’t a horrible idea! It just needs to be clarified/fine tuned.

Richiev thank you for taking the time to respond. I do not know Roxy Carmichael but will look her up. some of the themes of the film would be the lack of resources in rural towns.. I do like your log line better than mine…can I steal it.

Good afternoon…I was wondering about the whole KC thing and being able to use it, decided that if I use a lookalike I would be able to get around it….Thank you for bringing this to my attention….. I am going to have to rethink this…

I agree, I would use the welcome home Roxy Carmichael approach and create a movie star.

Second, there’s a logic problem. why would they give Costner over to a police officer to a cure instead of a doctor?

As for the loglne, you should start with the main character instead of the town.

“Things go awry for a worn down country policeman when the minor celebrity he’s saddled with bumps his head and believes he’s Kevin Costner”

Hope that helped, good luck with this!

The premise has a DOA casting and legal hurdle: Kevin Costner. Just because he’s a public person, doesn’t give someone the right to appropriate his character, his persona for a movie. You have to get a legal release to use his character, his persona. Which, if — IF — you can get, won’t come free, won’t come cheap, either.

I agree with Jeff- a confusing logline. Simplify. Also, you have two good guys in your logline, albeit one who is delusional. You need an antagonist who threatens what the good guy wants. Remember the general formula/ elements for a logline:

      – something bad happens
      – a flawed hero has to take action to rectify the situation
      – but he must learn to overcome his flaw first
      – so he can stop the bad guy from making the worst thing that can happen, happen

I highly recommend reading Blake Snyder’s book ‘Save the Cat’ for a guide on how to do this. Even better is his follow up book, Save the Cat Strikes Back.

It’s a little wordy.. And somewhat confusing, I’m not quite sure what the story is going to be about, if that makes sense?… Sounds creative, just confusing! Best of luck!
