Even in buddy films, there is a character who faces GREATER conflict than the other. This is usually your protagonist, at least for the purposes of the logline, because they are more compelling.

I don’t understand why she’s FORCED to join her father? She gets kicked out, she needs somewhere to stay … OK, fine. Why does she join her father on the bike ride? Also, what is the goal of this character? Her fathers goal sound like it’s to follow the politician (but even his objective is unclear). What is the girl’s goal? If she’s just getting dragged along, she’s going to be very passive, and audiences can’t stand passive characters.

Dear Louise: I would call it a “buddy” film where both are the protagonists where the immediate goal is survival and the underlying theme is finding redemption and each other.

Not sure if it’s just me but the use of the word ‘race’ is throwing me. I take it it’s a cross country man hunt? I only suggest this because I don’t know of many politicians who participate in bike races. I keep picturing a Fast and Furious style film…when I don’t think that’s your intent. I realize I’m probably just misreading things here but thought I’d flag it.

I agree with DPG, however this attempt is better than the first one. Going in the right direction.

Why does the dad want to follow the politician? What’s in it for him? What’s the nature of the assignment? As a reporter? A private investigator?
If the dad is broke, how can he afford to follow the politician?

And if the daughter is the protagonist, what is her objective goal (other than tagging along with her lousy dad)? What are the stakes for her in the cross-country race?
