I think it raises more questions than it answers. You want the reader to question how you achieve the outcomes you outline. Not question what you are trying to say. I think that word lets down a good premise.

That's completely different to the first version. That reads very sinister. The first version was a bit like a 60's "carry on" movie. This is only word choice and comes down to writing style.
