A cynical journalist tasked with writing a slam piece on 80?s cover bands struggles with her objectivity when she falls for the charismatic lead singer of an all-female cover band as she accompanies them during a contest to win the opening spot for a major rock band.
Why would the band let her follow them around if she's writing a slam piece? Maybe she's invited to tour with them and write an article after having written the slam piece. This is the follow-up article. Is her professional integrity on the line now? Will her fans still read her stuff (which is enjoRead more
Why would the band let her follow them around if she’s writing a slam piece? Maybe she’s invited to tour with them and write an article after having written the slam piece. This is the follow-up article. Is her professional integrity on the line now? Will her fans still read her stuff (which is enjoyed for its cynical and scathing nature) if she starts back-tracking? That to me poses the interesting dilemma – is she actually less cynical or is the love she feels for the lead singer skewing her perspective?

I like the idea. I think the family, rather than think he's a gold-digger, think he's just trying to take advantage of her to advance his career. This can include using her money but I think it's important, since you've called him 'ambitious', for that ambition to be outwardly visible by his family.Read more

This can include using her money but I think it’s important, since you’ve called him ‘ambitious’, for that ambition to be outwardly visible by his family. It makes total sense for them to be wary plus, since we’re not including the ending, it also makes the audience ask the question “is he just using her?” – that, to me, is interesting.
The only other thing I wonder, is how the family can undermine his career. I think it would be better if they try and stop the relationship at every turn. This in turn causes problems for his career. That makes more sense to me.
Hope this helps.
After discovering he has a son, an exiled gangster must confront his vengeful ex partner in crime, in order to save the family he abandoned.
To me, the inciting incident is not the discovery he has a son but the discovery that his vengeful partner is after his family. That's what sets up the goal of saving them. The discovery of the son is actually irrelevant as it stands. However, if the vengeful ex-partner kidnapped the son he didn't kRead more

The discovery of the son is actually irrelevant as it stands. However, if the vengeful ex-partner kidnapped the son he didn’t know he had it would tie in more. The fact he didn’t know he had a son though is still somewhat superfluous. It doesn’t change the desire to save him.
Exiled? Exiled from what? The gang? The country?
Why is the ex-partner after him? If he’s kicked him out of the gang why punish him further?
What’s the protagonist’s arc?
Definitely think there’s potential, I think we just need a bit more info and all the details to mesh together.
Hope this helps.
