    This attempt is a bit of a step backward. I would drop the accident angle and concentrate on making the inciting incident match the goal.

    Just curious but usually kidnappers take away the phones of their victims. Why does the victim have their phone on them; and if they have their phone why don't they call the cops. (Why doesn't the student call the cops?)
