The goal is winning, but its how that makes the movie. Forced Assimilation means just that.

Revenge is served on those running the golf course in how they're trying to fix the tournament or spin it in their direction so if their favorite golfer (Josh) wins he can bring a bigger prestige back to them and a financial gain.

Hi Donn Curbow.

Got it. His goal is to win the golf tournament so he can have a better life.

You describe this as a revengeful goal--who is the person or persons he will get revenge against if he wins the golf tournament?

In the beginning I take the viewers back in time on a south native island in which a woman is giving birth..to a white baby with red hair. This doesn't go over good with the tribe and Henry spends most of his baby years trying to avoid being eaten. The doctor and nurse who are constantly protecting him become his parents and eventually his sponsor to America.

It's not a complicated scene of events, but it starts the story.

As for offensive, I know without reading the script it's hard for me to explain, but none has occurred nor will it. The movie Maverick..pretty offensive to Indians but a blockbuster. I look at that movie and those scenes and I don't come close so I think we're good there.

The annual golf tournament is 40 years old in this story and the winner gets to advance further in his career and out of the small town life. Henry has never entered anything or knows what it that feels like. He doesn't want to work in a barn the rest of his life. So when his transformation happens from native nerd to Mr. GQ (his co-workers grind off his teeth, toe nails, finger nails..shave the hair off his body) he believes he can accomplish this revengeful goal.

I hope I'm answering all your questions..I know its tough.

You keep mentioning that your hero is native and that he comes from a tribe.
However on the other hand his parents are respectively a doctor and a nurse.
Both have raised a child who plays golf.
That sounds pretty integrated to me.
You can't use the fact that he is native as an excuse for being a nutcase.
It comes as pretty offensive for the so called native.
Coming from a different culture does not make you a bumbling idiot.

His hallucinations being the result of him being hit by a golf ball may explain the cause of his strange behaviour. However I still know nothing of his personal goal. His physical goal is clear, he wants to win the gold tournament. But why? What will winning the golf tournament change in his life?

I want to say thanks for all the input on here..I can actually say this format is really good.

Who is my intended audience?

In my opinion, I believe golf movies in general are for everybody, but I'm leaning a little more towards the younger crowd..the comedy crowd..and those who enjoy non mainstream movies..sleepers.

Why is it so important for Henry to win or play in the tournament?

Our three amateur golfers who are tied in with the golf course through mommy's money have a big interest in the preservation of the game. In the beginning, Josh (the leader) is shown hitting Henry with a Titleist thus creating the character of Bally. Their actions are the result of why Henry feels it necessary to enter the tournament to act revenge against them..and why Bally is pushing him to succeed cause he doesn't want to wind up out in the woods.

..and to continue..if it wasn't for them, Henry inside wouldn't be feeling these kinds of feelings..he wouldn't be wondering what if..he would be fine with life. But their actions and the actions of the course manager sets Henry on a course in which he must adapt..he must improve..he must compete.

In the end its not about winning..its about winning over hearts.

Thank you

I'm more of slightly native than retarded, being the fact that some natives don't understand our culture or their behind in development. Your right..no sane adult has a talking golf ball in which he has conversations with daily..like a pet rock. The funny part of the movie is the golf ball doesn't want to be his friend..the ball wants to be friends with a golfer..but not him. So he's more of a heckler.

Let me just include some of the script:

Henry lives a quiet life with native belongings. He's tall, thin, bushy red hair, huge yellowish teeth with a massive overbite. Older tv shows are a favorite on the walls. Magazines throughout the apartment all depict social myths; The National Enquirer, The Star, and Readers Digest. A sponsorship letter is taped to the refrigerator. A photo of a doctor and nurse standing together depicts his parents while a golf trophy and photo depict him as a golfer. On the desk is a flyer depicting a golf tournament on Saturday.

I pulled this out from where Henry is going to work.

INT. BUS RIDE TO WORK ? MORNING.

Passengers on the bus are staring. Henry's eating breakfast.

Bally
You're embarrassing me?

Henry
You tell me that every day.

Bally
Today I mean it.

Henry
How about remind me to
be happy, like if my best
friend wasn't a golf ball.

Bally
That's crazy talk.

Old Mrs. Sizemore
It saddens me to see
such rubbish.

Henry
(the squirrel's tail is hanging
out his mouth).

May (Philippine girl)
I used to cut that off.

Henry
Best part (muffled).

May's friend sitting beside her flashes the call me sign.

The bus driver announces Henry's stop.

I hope this helps everybody a little.

Hi Donn --
Interesting concept. But I'm as confused as others about the reality of the talking golf ball.
Who is your intended audience?
You have the inner goal for your hero to be accepted into "normal" society, which is strong motivation. But I don't know why he HAS to win the tournament.
What does he need to learn to go beyond his own needs ... in other words, what does he have to do to better society?
I'll be interested to see this progress.

Oh..totally forgot..this movie I wrote is for Danny DeVito..cause nobody can play a talking golf ball better than him.

I'm going to take the A out of Donna..scaring me here..male..! LOL. To answer your question..Henry's main thing he wants to accomplish is to stop being the native nerd and finally be wanted by people in society. When your eating squirrels and chasing rabbits on a golf course things can seem odd for others looking in. Golfing can be a rude sport and I've seen it first hand from upper tier athletes and it shrinks my interest every time I see it, but it can be made funny beating up on someone if done right.

So a little bit of revenge of the nerds meets John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever..a character who finds himself but friends may or may not be the answer.

I get that its a far out comedy..a white milk man on a deserted island having babies..then shipped off to the states cause he's a redhead and something not normal..like me in ways.

The story is original..nothing like it and the hook is the hero wins, just not in golf.

Part II..Henry finds himself actually reverting back to his original self..even after surgery.

Thank you

Is this some kind of Walter Mitty story?
So your hero is either psychotic or slightly retarded.
No sane adult (no matter how eccentric they are) think that having a speaking golf ball is normal.
So will the talking ball help him to mature during a coming of age experience?
Right now, I still don't see what is the movie about, nor where it is going.

Hi Donna Curbow. I have enjoyed reading your comments. What is the most important thing your main character wants to accomplish in this story?

Donn Curbow · Logliner · 315 pts

In the beginning of the movie Henry is hit in the head..so he def. is hallucinating..but the character of the ball talks on a whole new life..one that he wishes he could be to one that he needs also..but with an attitude.

Plot Outline
Henry was born on an island in the south pacific but forced to come to America when his tribe forces him out. As a young adult, Henry gets a job at a local golf course. Pushed around by local golfers, Henry is hit in the head with a ball and wakes up with a new friend. However, his new friend doesn't enjoy him so much. Henry will grow up quick in this fast paced movie and learn that golf courses can be a dangerous place.

It's still not clear to me whether the ball can actually talk (it's a fabulist tale) or is he hallucinating that it talks. So I don't know how to respond to the premise, don't know what kind of notes to give.
