A retired homicide detective must figure out why everybody below the age of 65 have died at their computers, which are all running a pointless game where avatars are stalked and killed by a monster. To make matters worse there’s nobody left to run the nursing home, food is running out, and Mrs Everett needs to go to the bathroom.

Yes, all people under 65 around the world have suddenly died and that’s why the retired detective is the only one who can work the case, at least in whatever city I decide to set this story.
I’m considering making him computer illiterate, or at least uncomfortable with technology so that will be an obstacle to overcome.
The idea is that everybody under the age of 65 uploaded their minds into cyberspace and ended up being trapped there with no way back so their bodies couldn’t get water and nourishment and so on, so they all died leaving their minds trapped. And nobody remembered to let those over 65, who were considered incompatible with the uploading technology, know that everybody else uploaded themselves. … Only I couldn’t get all that into the logline, or it would have been even longer.
I’ll see what I can do with the next iteration of the logline.

It's tricky, but I don't think it's impossible. It would just have to be handled very delicately. Just look at "Doctor Who," which is by the producer's own definition a kid's show. Each year they have a special episode on Christmas Day ? the new show at least ? and the 2014 X-mas special was a quite scary story taking place at a research station at the North Pole, featuring Santa played by Nick Frost, and aliens and nightmares. It had shots of sticky glistening aliens that reminded me of similar shots from the Alien franchise, which could be a bit on the scary side for a kids show. But I think they were able to get away with it.

A couple of questions: First off: Which government and why? Lots of countries around the world celebrate Christmas and all of those would have a stake in making sure their children gets their presents. A couple of questions:
First off: Which government and why? Lots of countries around the world celebrate Christmas and all of those would have a stake in making sure their children gets their presents. The North Pole is after all not part of any national territory, as far as I know. Maybe more than one government sends elite task forces and they don’t get along when they reach the North Pole and everything turns into one big cluster f**k? … And then they might discover that they actually work together since they all have a common goal… maybe in time for Act III…
Secondly: Why can’t an Elf, or even Santa himself go all John McClane on the terrorists? “Now I have a machine gun, Ho-ho-ho!” to quote the original “Die Hard,” which after all took place at Christmas.
