Seeing as this is a film, the story needs to be defined better. Dramatic potential aside, you must have a starting point and an end point.

Considering the original logline, the inciting incident is his wife’s death. This then throws his world off-kilter and he makes the choice to raise the child – end act one.
What happens now for the duration of act 2? And what MUST he achieve by the end of act 3?

I believe a good choice would be to make him not only raise, and keep safe the child, but also find and punish the rapist. Once he achieves that the audience knows that the MC made a tough choice and restored justice to his world.

While a good set up for clear dramatic stakes, this lacks a goal - what does the MC do and to what end? Is this a series or a film?

Agreed with the above.I'dd add that giving him a handicap of some sort would likely make it more interesting and add to his obstacle. A gamy leg, one arm, blind or deaf?- maybe that could be your hook. Zatoichi a blind samurai, made for an incredible MC and a great film - though not really blind heRead more

Zatoichi a blind samurai, made for an incredible MC and a great film – though not really blind he chooses to be, which probably makes him even greater.
