You should give us a more specific inciting incident. 'Threatens' could mean a lot of things. You should give us a more specific inciting incident. ‘Threatens’ could mean a lot of things. What specifically did she do?

Did she lock the car doors and drive the children into a lake?

Did she fall asleep while smoking and set fire to the house?

Did she force them to watch “The Last Jedi” over and over?

If you are going to use ‘threatens the lives of their children’ as the inciting incident, then give us the specific event in which she threatened (Endangered) the children’s lives.

Your lead character's goal is to convince someone else to take action: The Water Police ( Are you talking, The Coast Guard? or Bay Watch?) Instead, the lead character should be the one trying to rescue his friend or the lead character should be the guy on the boat

This needs a hook. There have been quite a few stories about someone going back to their small town (and even about the reunion) So you need that "One Thing" that separates this from those.Anyway, this is a cool idea as long as you get a hook going... maybe something to do with "Me Too" that would beRead more

Anyway, this is a cool idea as long as you get a hook going… maybe something to do with “Me Too” that would be topical. (Edit* when I said ‘me too’ I am talking about how she is an actress and what might have caused her to become Disillusioned with Hollywood, her motivation)
