"approval seeking" - find a better word for this. Is insecure enough? Is this a short or a feature? I don't think the stakes are high enough to make the story compelling. Is this a short or a feature? I don’t think the stakes are high enough to make the story compelling. Can you infer that perhaps his girlfriend is really his fiance, that one of the men in the village is her old (extremely muscular) boyfriend, and that if he doesn’t rise to the challenge he’s going to lose her?
It’s like Run Fatboy Run with a quaint little Finnish competition thrown in.

I feel like we have the main thrust of the story, but it's incomplete. The questions left unanswered for me are - WHY is he doing this? What sets him off that this is the course that he chooses he must take? What has made him so desperate for his ratings to improve? What is the inciting incident?

If there are already monsters in this universe .. who cares if they resurrect Dracula? What further threat does that pose? (What are the stakes?) Smells a lot like Hellboy. Just a heads up.
