Convinced by prominent comedians that marriage will make him funnier, a struggling comic takes their joke seriously and elopes only to find his bride wants a marriage so peaceful that in order to find the comedy in it, he’ll have to up his game.

There is a lot of setup, as others have pointed out. You have boiled the entire movie into a few words.

As in? Become a complete bastard? Become the world’s best husband?

Picturing this I can only see the guy coming off as mean not funny if the wife is perfect. I think she needs to have her own goal/motivation a la How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. I do see some comedy if he thinks he’s marrying like a complete train wreck in Vegas only for her to be the perfect housewife but again she needs some goal in this story that he doesn’t see coming,

I think this one needs to make the protagonist more clear in a way that when the comedy comes from the character, what will be funny about it? A struggling comic in a peaceful marriage does not feel strong enough to me. He needs a marriage, let's put that as the goal, and I liked Odie's addition of bad marriage. So, where would comedy come from in a life of someone who needs a bad marriage to keep the stakes, that is a comedy contest (like Odie suggested), alive? Maybe something like, "a comedian with codependent tendencies, asks a colleague to be his 'bad relationship' to get some comedic ideas for a contest, but when he falls in love, things go sideways."
